My Approach

The act of leaving marks of whatever nature, with whatever medium and on whatever surface is what I find the most fascinating about painting and drawing.
That act sometimes starts and develops quite spontaneously, depending on my immediate dealings and experiences, with an initial introduction of an idea or emotion on the canvas or paper, followed by a series of new additions and amendments expressing a reaction to that initial act, until a certain "yes, that's it" moment.
This sometimes occurs quite fast, but it may also take a long time, with many iterative interventions and modifications following each other.
The so often spontaneous creation of a certain work does not exclude however a certain incubation of ideas and accumulation of emotions. These are in fact the most important ingredients ultimately leading to a certain mindset, which then transforms itself to physical footprints in the form of lines, planes, forms, colours, of light and dark, of textures and compositions.
The final product may be a pastel drawing with a lot of soft touches, a watercolour where the interaction of shapes and colours need to be conducted like an orchestra, or a painting in acrylic or oil where a number of layers come together to reflect the entire process left behind.
In any case, it remains as much an outcome of looking and watching as of feeling and imagining.
Oh... and I love cats!
